The Value of Professional Design
Did you know that landscape design has the potential to halve our house's air conditioning costs? Shading the air conditioner unit, roof, and windows can reduce indoor temperatures by 6-12 degrees.
A single tree can absorb 26 pounds of carbon dioxide in one year and reduce surrounding air temperature by 3-6 degrees--up to 25 degrees cooler directly below the tree than over an asphalt driveway.
Even in winter, trees can reduce heating costs; windbreaks composed of trees and shrubs can reduce heating costs by 25-40%.
Besides sheltering us from the elements, improving infiltration and controlling erosion, well-placed trees can reduce undesirable noise by half, replacing it with pleasurable sounds, all the while welcoming birds and butterflies to further enliven our days.
Trees make our houses 20-30% more attractive to potential buyers, too.
Well designed outdoor rooms can double or even triple the total area of a property's living space. By allocating only 5-15% of our home's value toward effective landscape design, we can almost double its resale value, and sell it five to six weeks faster at a 5-15% higher sale price than neighbors with less appealing properties. Overall, effective landscape design provides sufficient energy savings to return the initial investment within just eight years.
Design & Installation Process
Effective landscape design begins with a desire for harmony with one's natural surroundings, and the firm intention to respect the ecological processes that
support them.
A satisfying relationship with the land you care for results from balancing the site's ecological processes with your daily cultural practices in ways that at once optimize the vitality of the local ecosystem and maximize the potential for joy and tranquility.
The first step is a Landscape consultation (usually 1-2 hours) in which we'll meet and walk over your site to assess it's strengths and challenges in terms of your objectives and preferences. We'll review any existing documents (plats, previous plans), as well as photos or illustrations you may have gathered to clarify your preferences. We'll discuss potential design solutions, evaluate what further services may be appropriate, and decide how you might prefer to phase your project. A sketch is typically not provided, but you may request a complimentary Landscape Consultation Summary enumerating the main points discussed and/or a list of planting recommendations.

Contracting Design Services
Once you're ready to proceed, an estimate will be prepared and you'll receive a Landscape Contract and Authorization for Design Services. In addition to quoting the fee for the project, the contract will describe its scope and timing, further site analysis requirements, the types of drawings to be provided, and any further services involved. Drawings might include a Conceptual Master Plan, Conceptual Site Plan, Conceptual Planting Plan, and/or construction details as needed. Further services might include plant selection and tagging, planting lay-out and supervision, or general management recommendations.
Implementation
As the drawings are completed, we'll review them
on-site, determine which contracting services you
may need, and make arrangements for implementing your project. Liriodendron will be available to supervise planting and installation, assuring that all
is accomplished according to the plans and
appropriate revisions as needed.
